Assessing Dispositions of Teacher Candidates: An Ongoing Debate
StructureCouncil on Physical Education Teacher Education
DescriptionDisruptive behaviors in the college classroom have become a growing concern in higher education. NCATE has implemented standards to assess dispositions; however, teacher candidates may not demonstrate the same behaviors within the classroom. PETE programs have taken steps to assess teacher candidates on professional behaviors throughout the educator licensure programs. This interactive presentation will present methods used in three different PETE programs (professional progress report, disposition survey, professional habits inventory). A representative of each program will discuss the method used, advantages and disadvantages of each. Participants will learn: various assessments used and what method may work best in their programs.
