Preparing Diverse High School Seniors for an Effective Transition into College Through a University Fitness/Wellness Course
Structure | College and University Physical Education Council
Description | Transition from high school to college life can be overwhelming for students. The ability to make healthy decisions in their freshmen year can have a lasting effect on students’ college years. Educating students on healthy living prior to that first semester can set the stage for enhanced decision making and positive behavior change. This presentation will show how a university level fitness/wellness class taught during the summer prior to a student’s enrollment can ease the transition into college life in a diverse population. Unique lesson and assessment ideas for self-improvement in physical activity, nutrition and weight management will be incorporated.
