The Intersection of Motor Development, Pedagogy and Service Learning: Fitting PETE Students with a Developmental Lens and a Working Knowledge
StructureMotor Development Academy
DescriptionA crucial learning outcome for PETE students is their ability to apply and integrate motor development concepts when designing and implementing movement education lessons for preK-5 students. Undergraduate motor development content presented in its traditional research-based lecture format does not, however, focus on this valuable learning objective. Service learning projects that allow undergraduate PETE students to integrate their developing knowledge in both motor development and pedagogy through the delivery of a movement education curriculum to diverse pre-school populations holds the potential to help bridge the gap. This panel discussion highlights the benefits of integrating service learning, motor development and pedagogy.
