Integrating the Family Into the Camp Experience: Exploring the Impact of Residential Diabetes Family Camp
StructureInterdisciplinary
DescriptionAn increasing number of adolescents are being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and the importance of family support for effective diabetes management is clear. Recent research has explored the importance of residential camp in the lives of adolescents with diabetes. However, little research has focused on the role of families in residential diabetes camps. This presentation shares the findings from recent research on family diabetes camp. Specifically, camp counselors, parents, and campers all play an important role in increasing diabetes self-management and overall camp satisfaction.
