DescriptionThe two presentations in this session will explore how ideas and beliefs about women and physical activity were constructed and conveyed through politics, policy, and scientific and pedagogical literature. This session will examine the policies and practices of “sex testing” in women’s athletics from 1966 to 2000. The evolvement and differences between scientific and pedagogical literature regarding female strength training in the 20th century will be explored.
