The Science of Healthful Living is a learning-oriented curriculum that encourages students to investigate the effects of exercise on their bodies. Funded by an NIH grant, the standards-based curriculum integrates physical education, science and health standards in 120 lessons for grades 6-8. Consisting of two units, Cardio Fitness Club and Healthy Lifestyles, lessons teach fitness (RPE, FITT, Progressive Overload, Specificity) and nutrition/goal setting (portion sizes, nutrition labeling, caloric balance, SMART goal setting) in physically active physical education.
